It was love at first con. Find out how FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare and con artist Nicolas Fox first met in this exclusive eBook original short story!

Con man Nick Fox is after Garson Klepper’s golden Peruvian relics. For Fox, convincing Klepper to hire him as security for the relocation of the relics to the Getty museum in L.A. was easy. Problem is, Fox wasn’t planning on Klepper also enlisting the help of the FBI. Fox also wasn’t planning on being paired up with rookie special agent Kate O’Hare. She’s smart, she’s tenacious, and when she’s conned, she holds a grudge. Life for Fox and O’Hare will never be the same again.

The Shell Game is a prequel to the riveting series from Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg.

Praise for the Fox and O’Hare series

“The laugh-out-loud humor that readers expect from Evanovich is in full force, and Goldberg’s crafty and elaborate writing is prominent. . . . Everyone will be eager for the next book in the series.”—Associated Press, on The Heist

“Great fun, with plenty of twists.”The Sacramento Bee, on The Chase

The Shell Game A Fox and O'Hare Short Story Single Fox and O'Hare series edition by Janet Evanovich Lee Goldberg Romance eBooks

The Shell Game is a short prequel to The Heist by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg intended to give readers a look at Kate and Nick's first meeting while simultaneously making fans of the series desperate to read the next full book, The Job.

It does it's job splendidly.

The Shell Game has the same witty tone as the other books, if it's a little light on the heist side of things (which as anyone who's read my reviews of heist books would know is my favorite part). That's not to say there isn't a heist running through the whole story, there just isn't enough time in this short story to fully flesh it out like it's done in the full novels. The aim of The Shell Game is to give readers something we never knew we needed before now, the story behind how Kate and Nick met.

I loved getting to see more of Kate and Nick, this story provided good incite into why they are so drawn to each other and the drive behind each one. The ending was particularly good for many reasons, leaving me with a giddy smile plastered on my face.

As a side note, I hope that a few of the characters who were introduced in this short story make an appearance in The Job, they were interesting and I'd love to see more of them.

Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg kept me laughing through the story and by the end the only thing I regretted was that it wasn't longer. The Shell Game is a great piece to introduce new readers to the Fox and O'Hare series and a must read for fans who are already in love with it.

The Shell Game A Fox and O'Hare Short Story Single Fox and O'Hare series edition by Janet Evanovich Lee Goldberg Romance eBooks Reviews

This short story is the prequel to the Fox and O'Hare Novels. New FBI agent Kate O'Hare spends her working hours in a cubicle on the 15th floor of a federal building doing background checks for security clearances. She is bored and hoping for an opportunity to prove herself. An opportunity comes, but she fears that it could end her career rather than further it.

We get a glimpse of what is to come in the Fox and O'Hare novels as we meet Kate O'Hare, who is described as a mixture of the girl next door and a junk yard dog, and the urbane Nicolas Fox, an international con man. Kate differs from the main character of many of the Evanovich novels, Stephanie Plum, because she kicks ass. Her first instinct is to punch you in the nose rather than rely on reinforcements like Stephanie Plum would.
As always, I enjoy Janet Evanovich's writing style. Her humor keeps me reading even in her short stories. The Fox/OHare series continues to keep the reader hooked in The Shell Game. I like the twists and the cunning used in the story as well as the ongoing relationship between Nick Fox and Agent Kate O'Hare which has it's own twists.
I am a big fan of the Fox and O'Hare series. This was a terrific short story on how FBI agent Kate O'Hare first met up with Nick Fox.

Just like the books, this is well written, great back and forth dialogue. With each trying to out maneuver the other.

If your new to the Fox and O'Hare series, this is great way to start off before reading the series. For those who've been reading the series. This gives us glimpse on why Kate O'Hare was always so determined to track down Nick Fox.

I highly recommend this book and the Fox and O'Hare series. Will not be disappointed.
This is a short story about how FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare and con-artist Nicholas Fox meet. Nick Fox is after Garson Klepper's golden Peruvian relics. Klepper hires Fox for security of the shipment. But Klepper also enlists the help of the FBI. O'Hare is on the case and when she discovers she's been conned ... well, all hell breaks lose. Awesome introduction to this series. Plenty of twists and great fun to read.
What a perfect way to find out if I might like Janet's other work beyond Stephanie Plum (have read the first 3 and really like that series).

And though this was a short story, it felt dense with excitement, humor, similes (mostly quite funny and tongue-in-cheek), and obviously fun flirtations.

Also, despite being short, multiple scene and point of view shifts were used and handled smoothly and effectively.

Best of all, the two main characters promised to be as much fun as Stephanie and Morelli.

For me, that's huge!

Now I have two super fun series to enjoy from this incredible writer.
When I decided to read The Heist by Evanovich and Goldberg, I didn't realize that Nick Fox and Kate O'Hare's first adventure was preceded by a few prequel e-book only novellas. The Shell Game is a breezy, entertaining, fast-paced introduction to the adversarial relationship at the center of this series, between a suave, elegant, likeable trickster and the by-the-book FBI agent determined to take him down. The plot is thin, but as a fan of caper stories and films I'm not really here for an intricately plotted mystery; rather, I want breezy banter and outlandish adventure -- and on that score, Evanovich and Goldberg deliver. This is a thoroughly entertaining read that does a fantastic job of introducing Nick and Kate and the professional rivalry that makes them the unlikeliest of crime-solvers. The perfect lunch break-length read, The Shell Game is a diverting introduction to Fox and O'Hare's entertaining shenanigans, a world thanks to its novelty (at least to date) I'll happily revisit.
THE SHELL GAME is the story of how FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare and conman Nicolas Fox first meet.

Kate O'Hare is a newly minted Special Agent stuck in her cubicle doing background checks. Nicolas Fox is in the middle of his latest con> the theft of a fifty million dollar Collection of Peruvian an tiquities.

The pair collide when O'Hare is assigned to work with the security team guarding the treasure. She meets the boss of Intertect, John Drake, who's in charge of the transfer of the treasure.

Of course we know Drake is Fox(no one has ever seen him or are even sure he's more than an urban legend).

I've become a fan of the Fox and O'Hare series. Long a fan of goldberg's writing, I'd never read Evanovich before. That will change.

five stars no question.
