I loved this book as a child and have looked for it in every second hand bookstore since being an adult. I was delighted to find it as a Kindle version on Amazon and ordered it immediately. It is exactly as I remembered and I am looking forward to reading it to my grandchildren when they are old enough. It is a bit like a book version of the 70s children's tv show "Mr Benn". Each chapter is a separate story so perfect for bedtime reading.Product details

The Counterpane Fairy (Audible Audio Edition) Katherine Pyle Flo Gibson LLC Audio Book Contractors Books Reviews
I received the audio cassette of "The Counterpane Fairy" by Kathaarine Pyle today.
When I was a child I had polio and my mother would spend hours reading to me while I lay in bed. One book that was read over and over to me was "The Counterpane Fairy".
Teddy was sick as a little child and each day the Counterpane Fairy would come and take him on a new adventure. It is so beautifully written by Katharine Pyle and narrated by Flo Gibson. If you have a child who can't go out for awhile or a child who just enjoys listening to a wonderful story then order this audio cassette. There is so much joy on the tape. Even if you have no children you will enjoy this tape.
My copy of "The Counterpane Fairy" is tattered and torn, it originally belonged to my mother who died last year at 82. It is a book that I have read and re-read to my own children and any other child I could get to listen (all of whom have delighted in it). You don't need to have a sick child to love it. I read it, over a number of nights, while we were vacationing one summer, to four children who couldn't wait to get to the end of the day to hear the next adventure. It fosters imagination and takes all children, 90's or otherwise, to places that don't require instant gratification or Hollywood images to delight. I haven't heard the cassette, however, I would recommend it just for the experience and the joy it will bring. The illustrations in the book, also drawn by the author, are wonderful and will, of course, be missed with the cassette. Let's bring the book back into print!
Years ago, I once asked my mom if there was one gift that she could have, what would she want most?
She said more than anything, she wished that she could find a copy of a book, apparently long out of print, one that she treasured as a little girl The Counterpane Fairy.
My mother is 74 years old. She told me that when she was a child, she loaned her copy of this favorite book to a friend, but never got it back.
Decades went by (as decades do...) and periodically, when she was in a used book store, she would look for a copy of this story. But, she never found it. I looked too. Then, during my first time trying out , I typed out the title, and found my Mom's lost treasure, on cassette. When I gave it to her a few weeks ago, she literally gasped and tears came to her eyes. I know, simply, it meant the world to her. It makes me cry now to think of her reaction. I feel like I gave my Mom a bit of her own childhood. Thank you . And, yes, my mom was right the Counterpane Fairy is a wonderful story. Worth the wait.
I am so pleased to have found a copy of this book. As a child, this was by far my favorite book...it was filled with magic for me. Now I'm a grandmother and still enjoy the magic it brings. This is what dreams and fantasies are made of. May there always be books like this for children.
My most favorite book as a child. Still holds up today.
I read this book when i was about 10 years old, some 67 years ago while suffering from Interitis, a intestinmal disease I overcame.
I purchased the book for one of my great grand children, but found that his mother and grandmother were reading it as well, and it's still
a great book for one and all to enjoy. I highly recommend this to all readers of all ages.
I loved it, and my young children loved it. It is also an incredible glimpse into the late 1800s and early 1900s where disease had to be fought off without antibiotics, etc. The stories told by the Counterpane Fairy to this very sick child are universally enjoyable.
